Camp Via West

Camp Via West provides fun and enriching year-round day and overnight camp experiences. Our innovative programs and activities are designed to provide opportunities for skill-building, such as independent living skills, while enjoying a wonderful outdoor experience! Increasing self-sufficiency is at the heart of what we do.

Enrollment Procedure

  • Call your Regional Center coordinator if you plan on using out-of-home respite hours to learn more about your hours and when/how to use them.

From Highway 280

  • Exit at Foothill Expressway/Grant Road
  • IF HEADING NORTH ON HWY 280 (towards San Francisco) turn left at the signal onto Foothill Boulevard
  • IF HEADING SOUTH ON HWY 280 (towards San Jose) turn right at the signal onto Foothill Boulevard
  • Follow the remaining directions From Foothill Boulevard

From Highway 85

  • Exit at Stevens Creek Boulevard
  • IF HEADING NORTH ON HWY 85 (towards San Francisco) turn left at the signal onto Stevens Creek Boulevard
  • IF HEADING SOUTH ON HWY 85 (towards San Jose) turn right at the signal onto Stevens Creek Boulevard
  • Turn left on Foothill Boulevard
  • Follow the remaining directions from Foothill Boulevard

From Foothill Boulevard

  • Foothill Boulevard will turn into Stevens Canyon Road
  • Continue on Stevens Canyon Road, passing a reservoir on your left and quarry on your right
  • After the quarry, you will see Montebello Road on your right – DO NOT TURN RIGHT, keep going straight (towards the left) on Stevens Canyon Road (past the fire station) until you come to a stop sign
  • Turn right at the stop sign and continue on Stevens Canyon Road – DO NOT CONTINUE STRAIGHT onto Mt. Eden Road
  • Approximately 100 yards past the stop sign, you will see a small wooden sign on your read that reads “Via West Campus”
  • Turn right at the sign across the bridge and stay to the left up the hill to Via West Campus

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my own caregiver?
Due to our insurance mandates, all staff providing care for our participants must be employed by Via West. If your caregiver is interested in applying for a position, they may do so by clicking here.

Does my child have to spend the night?
No, he/she does not. During the school year, we have day programs available on Saturdays only from 9:00am-8:00pm. During the summer, every session has a day program option where your child can attend the program from 9:00am to 6:00pm.

I am using Regional Center hours, so do I have to pay anything out of pocket?
Yes, if you are able to use Regional Center funding for your Via West experience, there is a required out-of-pocket supplemental daily rate of $120/day in addition to what is funded by the Regional Center. This covers the enhanced camp experience that Via West provides – i.e., a team of behaviorists, community integration outings, extensive nursing care, etc. We do have a scholarship fund available for families needing assistance with this payment. My child has a special diet, how do you handle that?
Our kitchen staff can accommodate all special diets including but not limited to allergies, diabetic, gluten free, casein free, lactose free, vegetarian, and vegan. Special diet lists are posted throughout the main lodge during sessions, and your participant will be given a special wristband during check-in that indicates that he/she requires a special diet.

My child does not have a special diet, but is a picky eater, how do you handle that?
We often find that even the pickiest eaters will try new food in a new environment surrounded by their peers. We encourage exploration but we understand that sometimes, this is not an option. Prior to each session, you will receive a copy of the full menu, and we will work with you on making any needed adjustments or substitutions.

What types of activities do you typically have during a camp session?
Camp sessions are made up of 45 minute themed activity rotations that feature culinary arts – including farm-to-table education – hiking, music, sports and physical fitness, dramatic arts, creative arts, and more. Every session has a dance and a talent show and select sessions also have horseback riding and field trips. During the summer, every session will include swimming rotations.

What makes Via West different from other local camps?
We accept participants that need 1:1 staffing support, including medically fragile participants (such as those with g-tubes, seizure disorders, diabetes etc.). Our staff receive a full Department of Justice background check and fingerprinting along with extensive training. Our sleeping quarters are equipped with fully accessible showers and are also equipped with alarms and awake night duty staff. We are centrally located with easy access from highway 280.
